    Comments:

This is one of the best bikes out there for everyday use. I am a beginner in the biking world and was undecided on whether I wanted a mountain bike or road bike - but thankfully Trek makes this dual sport. I occasionally go on 20+ mile rides on the road & sidewalks. However, this bike handles off-road environments very well; I was able to easily navigate through tall grass, rough terrain, and construction site dirt. The remote lockout of the front suspension is a great feature that I use all the time, if I just had a locking front fork I doubt i'd use it very often, but the remote lock out is worth it!

    Comments:

The bike is a great ride. I'm 5'7, and got a 17.5" frame. the frame is a good fit but I wish i could get smaller wheels only by like a inch or two. because i like to bunny hop and jump on and off stuff. these big wheels make it difficult to hop and turn in the air. lol sounds strange but im from a BMX back ground so i like nimbleness. but other wise a GREAT BIKE!

    Comments:

I bought this bike because I wanted to step up from my mountain bike but I didn't want to go to a road bike. The main reason is that I am a larger person (6'2", 225#) and I see too many skinny tire bikes with flat tires while I am riding. This bike suits all of my needs. It is fast (I can keep up with the road bike guys with this bike). The hydraulic disc brakes are great for stopping quickly. The lockout on the front fork is great on steep climbs. The seat is even comfortable on long rides after I got the seat angle adjusted correctly. The only problem I've had with this bike is with the tire tread design. They tend to throw too much gravel into my face when I am on parts of the bike trail which are made of crushed limestone.

    Comments:

I've begun biking longer hauls and on more hilly terrain that my comfort bike just can't do (mainly need more gears). I only a Trek, and really only looked at Treks. I selected a DS over an FX to handle unpaved surfaces. On reading reviews it was recommended to not get an 8.4, to chose one up or down instead. On looking at the 8.3 and 8.5 and speaking with the specialist at the store I also felt the 8.3 or 8.5 would be better. I choose the 8.5 as I was concerned that while the 8.3 is perfectly fine for me now, in a year or two I'd need the additional features of the 8.5. The biggest feature differences between the two are the addition of hydraulic brakes and a remote lockout for the front suspension for the 8.5. The other noticeable difference is the larger handlebar and grips which make the 8.5 more comfortable, and will be appreciated on long rides. I would've liked the 8.5 to still have a chain guard, but I can see where most buyers wouldn't want that. It also didn't hurt that the 8.3 and 8.5 have colors I like better than the 8.4. (Although, while the 8.5 is the perfect color for me, there aren't any other options.) Lastly I'll add that while I did a lot of research online, going to a store to see and ride the bikes is huge. Don't waste your time trying to narrow down to what you want before you go. Just get an idea of what models and brands you like and what feature you may want. Seeing and feeling the bikes in person can instantly change your mind.
